Please note: to verify applicable requirements when entering Italy you can also take advantage of the dedicated online tool created by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The new DL 22/04/2021 extended to 31/07/2021, features lists of Countries to which different restrictions apply, also in relation to the date of entry.

The list of countries may change with specific ordinances released by the Ministry of Health.

GROUP A: San Marino and Vatican City: no restrictions apply

GROUP B: Countries and territories with a low epidemiological profile to be identified, among those included in list C, by order of the Ministry of Health in agreement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Persons traveling to Italy from any of these Countries will only need to fill in a self-declaration form specifying (i) the Countries they visited in the last 14 days before entering Italy and (ii) their reasons for traveling.

Currently, there are no Countries on this list

GROUP C: Austria (with specific limitations for the Region of Tyrol detailed in the dedicated paragraph) Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Croatia, Denmark (including the Faroe Islands and Greenland), Estonia, Finland, France (including Guadeloupe, Martinique, Guyana, Reunion, Mayotte and excluding other overseas territories outside the European mainland), Germany, Greece, Ireland, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands (excluding other overseas territories outside the European mainland), Poland, Portugal (including the Azores and Madeira), United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain (including territories in Africa), Sweden, Hungary, Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Andorra, Monaco.

Persons traveling to Italy from any of these countries will need to inform the Prevention Department of their local health authority that they have entered Italy and present a negative molecular or antigen swab test result carried out within the last 48 hours before arriving in Italy (failing which they will be required to self-isolate).

GROUP D: Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Rwanda, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Thailand: Persons traveling to Italy from any of these countries will need to inform the Prevention Department of their local health authority that they have entered Italy, fill in a self-declaration form and self-isolate under medical supervision for 10 days, at their final destination in Italy, which they must reach by private transport only or connecting flight (without leaving the airport transit area).

GROUP E: All other Countries not included in the above lists (including Brazil, to which the special rules shown below shall apply): there are no restrictions on travel to Italy from all other Countries not included in the above lists for Italian/EU/Schengen citizens and family members, as well as holders of long-term resident status and family members (Directive 2004/38/EC), and unmarried partners in a proven stable relationship (regardless of whether or not they cohabit) with Italian/EU/Schengen citizens or long-term residents, if traveling to their partner’s home or place of residence in Italy. Persons not belonging to any of the groups mentioned above may enter Italy from group E Countries only for specific reasons, such as, work, study, health, or other absolutely essential reasons, or to return to their home or place of residence. Persons traveling to Italy from any of these countries will need to inform the Prevention Department of their local health authority that they have entered Italy, fill in a self-declaration form, and self-isolate under medical supervision for 14 days at their final destination in Italy, which they must reach by private transport only or connecting flight (without leaving the airport transit area).

Specific rules and guidelines for travel from Brazil, India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka: Entry to Italy of travelers who visited or transited through Brazil in the last 14 days before entering Italy is allowed only in the following cases (provided that they do not show symptoms of COVID-19):

persons who have been resident in Italy since before 29 of April 2021
officials and other servants, however, designated, of the European Union or international organizations, diplomatic agents, administrative and technical staff of diplomatic missions
consular officials and personnel, and members of the armed forces and law enforcement agencies on active duty;
persons traveling for essential reasons and specifically authorized by the Ministry of Health to enter Italy;
persons traveling to the home or place of residence of their children, if minors.
Italian citizens enrolled in AIRE (Italian registry of citizens resident abroad);

In these cases, persons and air traffic from the aforementioned countries are allowed entry to Italy provided that they:

Declare the Countries visited or transited through in the last 14 days before entering Italy and the reasons for traveling;
Present to the carrier onboarding, and to any other control authority, a negative molecular or antigen swab test results taken within 72 hours before entering the Country;
Accept to take a molecular or antigen swab test on arrival at the airport, port, or border crossing, where possible, or within 48 hours from entering the Country at their local health authority. Travelers entering Italy with a flight from the aforementioned countries must take a swab test on arrival at the airport;
Undertake, regardless of the swab test result under point c) above, to self-isolate under medical supervision for a period of fourteen days, at their home or another place of residence, subject to communication of their arrival to the Prevention Department of the competent local health authority;
Accept to take an additional molecular or antigen swab test at the end of the fourteen-day self-isolation period;

If you are subject to the 10 days period of mandatory quarantine in self-isolation, please take note of the following information:

1) If you already have a temporary place of residence where you can spend your 10 days mandatory quarantine period, please reach it in the shortest possible delay and only by private means of transport (see above).

Please note: due to COVID-19 existing protocols at the EUI, it is not possible to spend the 10 days mandatory quarantine period at the EUI flats (except if you are renting an entire flat).

2) If you don’t know where to spend your 10 days mandatory quarantine period, please be informed that the EUI has finalized an agreement with the Student Hotel for a special rate of 76 €/day reserved to EUI members (including meal treatment), with the following conditions:

The rate is 46 euro per night for a single bed 120 x 200 and 50.40 euro per night for a queen bed 160×200 (Fully-equipped room with modern en-suite bathroom, single bed size, marble floor, flat-screen TV, air-conditioning, Wi-Fi. Maximum occupancy is one person) Extra: City tax of 4.90 euro for first seven nights.
Regarding the all-inclusive 3-meals room service, the price is 30 euro per day and you can book this meal package in the hotel upon arrival.

3) In alternative to the Student Hotel, other 3-4 stars Florence hotels offer contracted rates (meals inclusive) for the quarantine period (prices starting from 1800 € for 14 days). If you are interested in this option please contact the EUI official Travel Agency to ask for quotes, payment conditions, and availability.

4) If you plan to spend the 10 days mandatory quarantine period in Italian cities other than Florence, please contact the EUI official Travel Agency to ask for quotes, payment conditions, and availability.

5) Upon arrival, please do not forget to notify the Italian Health Authorities for the Florence area by registering on the dedicated portal (https://www.prevenzionecollettiva.toscana.it/welcome/pages/segnalazione_estero.html#1) and the EUI HSSO (Health, Safety, and Security Officer) by sending a mail message to [email protected] providing your name and contact details;
